Fall is my favorite season, well behind winter anyways and in my opinion it is never to early to start on some fall inspired crafts. I’ve seen needle and wet felting before and wanted to try it out for myself to make some hand felted acorns with some of the acorn caps I collected while up north on my vacation. These acorns are great for all kinds of uses, put them in a glass vase for great fall decor or even make a couple into a cute brooch or necklace! The great thing is this craft only takes a few simple steps.

What you’ll need:

  • Merino wool
  • Bar of soap
  • Acorn caps
  • Hot glue gun

1. To make the acorn shapes out of the merino wool I’ve decided to use the wet felting method. Grab a small bunch of the wool as seen the photo.

2.  Soap up your hands very slightly using your bar soap and water. You will then apply this to the wool with your hands.

3. Now start to roll the wool into a ball! It might take several minutes before creating a solid, tight shape but continue to apply water as needed if the ball becomes to soapy.

4. Once you have gotten the size and shape you want go ahead and rinse any excess soap out of the felt. Of course if you still need to add size to the ball simply grab some more wool and repeat the process adding it to the existing shape.

5. Repeat steps 1 – 4 until you have your desired amount of felted acorn shapes.

6. Now comes the waiting game. Leave out the felted acorn shapes to dry, depending on the size of the shape this can take a few hours to 1 day.

7. Once dry cut off any pesky stray fibers while waiting for your hot glue gun to heat up.

8. Grab and acorn cap and apply hot glue to the inside. Attach the acorn cap to the top of your felted ball and there you have it! A felted acorn.

And here are the finished acorns!
