This week on Toddler Town, it’s all about buzzing bees! My toddlers are addicted to singing the song, “I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee,” so I created this project cute little paper and glue project to go with the song.

Since there are only a few pieces, this project is not frustrating for young toddlers who are still learning how to hold their glue pots and sticks.

Download the bee template and let’s get started!

What You Need:

  • Bee Template
  • Printer
  • Printer paper (preferably yellow but white is fine)
  • Black construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue

To adapt this project for older children, cut out more stripes and cut out the wings and stinger separately for more gluing fun.

  1. Print out the bumble bee template I provided above onto yellow paper if you have it, otherwise just use plain white copy paper.
  2. Cut out a few strips of black construction paper approximately 3/4″ thick, just tall enough to cover the width of the the bumblebee’s belly (approximiately 4″). I usually do two for young toddlers and three or four for older toddlers. Vary the thickness if you like.
  3. Give your toddler the strips and glue and watch them figure out where the strips (may or may not) go.

P.S. Who cares if they put their stripes in the right spot? It’s about the process, not the product. Have fun making a baby bumblebee with your toddler; the placement of the bumble bee’s stripes will be just as unique as your toddler is!
